Biography:
Not a registrant, enlisted prior. Born, Chippewa Falls, Wis., March 13, 1899, of Canadian-American parents. Occupation - farmer. Enlisted at Minot on May 22, 1917. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Served in Battery D, 5th Field Artillery, to death. Grade: Private 1st Class, Aug. 9, 1917. Overseas from July 30, 1917, to death. Engagements: Offensives: Aisne-Marne; St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. Defensive: Montdidier-Noyon. Defensive Sectors: Ansauville, Saizerais and Sommerviller (Lorraine); Cantigny (Picardy). Cited in General Orders No. 1, Headquarters, 1st Division, Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky., Jan. 1, 1920, for gallantry in actionand especially meritorious services. Entitled to wear a silver star.
