Biography:
Joseph Hrin, 24, of Pottsville admitted the slaying of Pvt. Harrington in Pottsville tavern basement the night of Dec. 31. Harrington was with a group of soldiers in the tavern and was attacked by Hrin, a civilian, when he went into the basement. Corp. Clyde Dunlap of Cadiz, Ohio, was with Harrington the evening of the murder and escorted the body to New Rockford.
Harrington, Dunlap and two other soldiers had gone into the town from nearby Indian Town Gap where they were in army training. Hrin had gotten into an argument with the soldiers when he tried to "cras" the party and later apparently awaited Harrington when he went into the cellar of the tavern.
Elmer George Harrington was born March 28, 1930, at Chaseley, N.D. and lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harrington, in Wells County before the family moved to the Brantford community in 1947.
He was married June 26, 1951, to Miss Eileen Comer at Washburn and the couple lived at Riverdale until July. Pvt. Harrington was called into service in September last year and was completing his basic training at Indiantown Gap.
He is survived by his wife and parents, one sister and three brothers, Marvin, Rober, Donal and Doris all of Brantford.
He is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, North Dakota.
