Major Fortin was the pilot of a C-47 that crashed during an emergency landing in a suburban area northwest of Chicago. He died in the crash, but the 2 passengers survived.

Biography:

Major Fortin was born in Overly, North Dakota on May 8, 1920. He was a resident of Ramsey County, North Dakota when he entered the USAAF Ft Snelling, Minnesota, on May 22, 1941. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He was the pilot of a C-47 that crashed during an emergency landing in a suburban area northwest of Chicago. He died in the crash, but the 2 passengers survived. At the time of his death, he was an assistant professor of air science and tactics at Northwestern University. He was married and had two sons, Floyd Jr (3) and Davis (1) and lived in Evanston, Illinois, at the time of his death. He is buried in Block 27, Lot 06, Space 02, St Joes 2nd Addition in Saint Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake, North Dakota.
