Biography:

Son of Frederick Rich & Effie M (McCumber) Barnes living in Wahpeton, Richland, North Dakota in 1910 & 1920 US censuses. George had one sibling, Robert McCumber Barnes. George was born January 8, 1924. He married Mary Summerfield Glenn Touart. 

He entered the US army at West Point, NY on January 13, 1929 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He

Word of the death of Lieut Colonel George R Barnes, 34, of Santa Ana somewhere in the South Pacific was received today by his widow. He was listed by the War Department as killed but not in enemy action, Mrs Barnes said. He died in an accident on Oct 18, 1942 she was informed.

He is buried in Grave 55, Row A, Section All, Post Cemetery, U.S. Military Academy, NY.
