Biography:

Captain George R.D. Cross was born in Minot, North Dakota on February 13, 1924. He entered the US Navy in Minot, North Dakota on January 1, 1943 and during WWII he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a 1st Lieutenant and he separated in Great Lakes, Illinois on July 2, 1946.

On October 25, 1951 he entered the US Marine Corps. Captain Cross was the pilot of an AU-1 Corsair attack fighter with the Marine Attack Squadron 323, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing.

He was killed in action in Korea on October 25, 1952, while on a combat mission, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire, lost its tail section, crashed and burned. His remains were not recovered.
