Registered Ransom county. Born, Taylorville, Ill., May 23, 1898, of American parents. Occupation - farmer. Enlisted in the Navy at Lisbon on June 2, 1917. Home awaiting orders, to Aug. 22, 1917. Served at Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill., to Dec. 18, 1917; Receiving Ship, Philadelphia, Pa., to Jan. 14, 1918; Navy Air Station, Pauillac, France, to March 2, 1918; Naval Air Station, St. Trojan, to death. Grades: Apprentice Seaman, 121 days; Seaman 2nd Class, 273 days; Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class, Aviation, 81 days.
