Hilman Thelfred Thompson was born on February 19, 1914, to Eddie and Hilda Regine Torgerson Thompson in Wildrose, Williams County, North Dakota. He registered for the United States Army on October 16, 1940, in Ray, Williams County, North Dakota. Private First Class Thompson was killed in action near Luxembourg and is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Hamm, Canton de Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Cemetery Plot Number E, Cemetery Row 7, Grave 34; and Rainbow Valley Lutheran Cemetery, Wildrose, Williams County, North Dakota. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
