Howard Jacob Erb was born on February 11, 1913, to Jacob Edward and Isadore Jane "Dora" Furlong Erb in Garrison, McLean County, North Dakota. He registered with the United States Army on October 16, 1940, in Ryder, Ward County, North Dakota. Sergeant Erb is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avoid Department de la Moselle, Lorraine, France, Plot B, Row 19, Grave 44. Received Purple Heart and Silver Star awards.
