He went missing when he and 16 other individuals (+6 crew) boarded a C-47 on Guadalcanal for casualty evacuation to Efate Island, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) which vanished in route.  Died while in MIA status.

KRAWCZYK, JOSEPH A. SN 20 710 507; born Tarnow, Poland 4 Apr 10; resident Stutsman County, NDak; entered AUS Jamestown, NDak 10 Feb 41; served Asiatic Pacific Theater; KIA 13 Jan 43 Guadalcanal; PVT; remains not recovered. 

Memorialized at Manila American Cemetery. Received Bronze Star award.
