Circumstances:

He was a gunner on B-17E #41-9016 flying out of Foch Field Tunisia on an electronic recon mission off the coast of southern France. The wreckage of the plane was later located where it crashed into a mountain at the northeast of Spain near the Mediterranean Sea near the Bay of Roses due to weather and probable navigation error.
