Initial reports indicated he met his death when a vehicle in which he was riding missed a turn and was wrecked near the front lines in Korea. Further investigation determined that enemy sniper fire caused the accident.
Biography:
Marvin Myhre was the son of Martin Myhre and Dorothy Olson Myhre. He grew up in New Rockford, North Dakota, attending school there, where he was in the marching band.
Marvin later joined the Army and served with distinction in Korea. He was killed after enemy sniper fire killed the driver of a jeep in which Marvin was a passenger and the jeep turned over. Marvin was awarded the Purple Heart.
His family long mourned the passing of a dear son, brother, and uncle. Below are his obituary and his military record.

Details of the Death of New Rockford Man Are Expected by His Parents
Mrs. Dorothy Myhre has been advised by the war department that her son, Corp. Marvin Myhre, met death when a vehicle in which he was riding missed a turn and was wrecked near the front lines in Korea. A heavy blanket of dust hung over the road and the driver was unable to see the approaching turn, authorities said.

Details of the death of Corp. Marvin Myhre, 23, are expected soon by his parents, Mrs. Dorothy Myhre of New Rockford and Martin Myhre, Devils Lake.
Death of the young man, who was a member of the army air corps, occurred Wednesday, August 23, in a vehicle accident in Korea, according to a telegram received by her from the army air force commander in that sector.
Mrs. Myhre has requested that the body of their son be returned to New Rockford for burial. She was informed Monday that the body has been interred in Korea.
Marvin Jerome Myhre was born in New Rockford December 14, 1928 and attended the grade and high school of this community graduating from Central High with the Class of 1946.
He attended the North Dakota Agricultural College at Fargo and the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, before enlisting in the army air corps July 6, 1948.
Corp. Myhre received his training at Sheppard Field, Tex., Biloxi, Miss., and Hamilton Field, Calif., before going overseas Dec. 28, 1948. He was stationed in Japan for several months before moving into the Korea sector with his unit.
Besides his parents, Corp. Myhre is survived by one sister, Mrs. Albert Pierce (Joyce) of Forest Grove, Ore., and a brother, Blayne, at home. Mrs. Pierce arrived in New Rockford Friday evening to be with her mother for some time.
A young man of outstanding character and ability, Marvin played a prominent part in athletics and was a member of the New Rockford high school band for a number of years prior to his graduation in 1946. He made friends easily and leaves a great number of them to mourn his untimely passing. All will join in extending sincere condolences to his family in their hour of deep sorrow.
Marvin's Military Record:
Corporal Myhre was a member of the 6407th Ammunition Handling Unit, U.S. Air Force. On August 23, 1950, the vehicle in which he was riding came under sniper fire. The driver was killed and the vehicle overturned, killing Corporal Myhre. Corporal Myhre was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
