Circumstances:

On March 02, 1968 SN Michael Evenson's Alpha boat A-91-7 was conducting a riverine patrol on the Can Tho River, four miles south of the city of Can Tho in Phong Dinh Province, Republic of Vietnam when the boat was swamped and sank. SN Evenson drowned in the incident. His body was recovered days later, and identified on March 5, 1968. SN Evenson was posthumously promoted to Radioman 3rd Class.

Biography:

Radioman 3rd Class Michael Arthur Evenson was born on December 15, 1947 and had 2 years of service in the U.S. Navy, arriving in Vietnam on November 29, 1967 assigned to Alpha Boat 91-7 (A-91-7), River Assault Squadron 9, Task Force 117 (TF-117), United States Naval Forces Vietnam. He is buried in Lakota Cemetery - Lakota, ND.
