Biography:
Sergeant Myron Blaine Johnson served in the United States Army beginning on January 23, 1970, in the 198th Light Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry, C Company. His specialty or military occupation was Light Weapons Infantry.
He was one of the men killed during an attack by the Viet Cong 409th Sapper Battalion sappers during the Battle of Fire Support Base (FSB) Mary Ann, a remote mountain site near Hau Duc, Quang Tin Province. It was an outpost with about 30 buildings, including bunkers and sleeping quarters, defended by 231 American of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, along with 22 South Vietnamese soldiers.
When the brutal sneak attack was over, the base "was a shambles, with things burning all over the place" wrote the Base commander in a letter to his family. After one hour of close combat, 30 Americans were dead and 82 wounded. Many of them had been asleep in their bunks when the attack began. Incident Code #FSB-MaryAnn.
Myron Blaine Johnson was born on September 26, 1948, in Mandaree, McKenzie County, North Dakota. Sergeant Johnson is buried or memorialized at Saint Anthonys Cemetery, Mandaree, McKenzie County, North Dakota. He received the Purple Heart and is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, DC, name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 04w, Line 87.
