Peter Grosz

Peter Grosz died in combat on Luzon in April 1945. He was honored at home in the naming of the Clark-Grosz Post of the American Legion.
PFC Peter Grosz was killed in action on Luzon April 7, 1945, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Ida Grosz of Halliday. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gotthilf Grosz of Hazen.

Born Oct. 15, 1913, at Krem, he attended rural school in that vicinity. In May, 1941, he joined the Army and received his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. For a time he attended a machine gunners school. He was stationed in the California desert before being shipped out the latter part of August, 1943. He had been stationed with the infantry at Hawaii and Dutch New Guinea before being sent to Luzon.

He was married to Ida Wolf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wolf of Halliday, in the summer of 1943. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joan. Also surviving are brothers and sisters Mrs. Emma Schramm, Mrs. Albert Rahn, Mrs. Leo Lempher, Albert, Sam, Ed, Erwin and Fred, all of Hazen, and Mrs. Bernhard Huber of Stanton.

He is buried in Hazen Cemetery, Hazen, NDak.
