Circumstances:

Killed in an airplane training accident over the Atlantic Ocean, in preparation to enter WWII. Story told to me by his sister, Lucile (Howard) Bertsch: He was flying a plane pulling a target. His plane was accidentally hit by the attacking plane, which caused him to crash. Never saw enemy combat.
