Circumstances:

Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Groth of Enderlin received word Sunday, July 16, that their son Stephen James (Jim) Groth had died as a result of wounds suffered in a Viet Nam skirmish. Word that their son was listed as missing in action was received by the Groths Saturday, July 15.

Biography:

Spec. 4 James Groth enlisted in the army in March 1966. He received his basic training at Fort Riley, Kans., and left for Viet Nam following a furlough in Enderlin with his parents.
He was assigned to the Ninth Infantry Division and later transferred to the Fourth Division when he was fatally injured.
Groth was a 1963 graduate of Enderlin High School and attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton.
While attending Enderlin High School, Groth participated in basketball, baseball, golf and was a member of the junior class play. He was a member of the Southeast Conference championship golf team in 1963 and played with a high school baseball squad that were runners-up in the state baseball tourney at New Rockford, also in 1963. He won the annual Chamber of Commerce invitational golf tournament here in 1965.

He is buried in Enderlin City Cemetery - Enderlin, ND.
