Biography:

Major Virgil De Camp was born in Batesville, Arkansas on Sepember 4, 1918. He was a resident of Cass County, North Dakota when he entered the US Army in Harvey, North Dakota on February 10, 1941. 

During World War II he was a 1st Lieutenant and served the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

On a mission to Friedrichshafen, Germany in Aircraft B-17G 4231632 as a navigator, there was engine trouble and the aircraft dropped behind the formation. They bombed the target as planned and then all 10 men on board jumped to safety in Switzerland and were interned at Dubendorf, Switzerland per Hague V Convention regulations. 

He also served in the Korean War. 

He died in service while swimming at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. He was survived by his widow and four children.

He is buried at San Francisco National Cemetery, San Francisco, California.
