Circumstances:

Killed in action. Lt. Landis was the Navigator on Lt. James Roden's B-24 crew. He was killed when their aircraft was shot down while returning from a mission over Hamm, Germany. German fighters had followed the group of 28 aircraft back to England and, as they made their approach for a night landing, shot down two aircraft killing 17 crew members and one airman on the ground.

Biography:

Buried at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial. Received Purple Heart award, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
