Circumstances:
JO1 Eckes had 6 years of service in the U.S. Navy, arriving in Vietnam assigned to Headquarters Naval Support Activity Saigon, U.S. Naval Forces Vietnam. A senior U.S. Navy Petty Officer; Journalist 1st Class Eckes was killed when the aircraft he was being transported in crashed in the Ninh Thuan province of South Vietnam on 10 March 1967.
