Circumstances:

Private Anderson was taken prisoner in the vicinity of Schönberg, Belgium on December 21, 1944.  He was held prisoner in Stalag IV-B Mühlberg, Landkreis Elbe-Elster, Brandenburg, Germany and according to a German autopsy report he died in the Reserve Hospital V in Leipzig of peritonitis on March 21, 1945.

His official date of death was set on March 8, 1946.

Biography:

Lee Erling Anderson was born on February 15, 1924, to Richard and Gerda Anderson in McKenzie, Billings County, North Dakota. He registered for the service on June 30, 1942, in Medora, Billings County, North Dakota and was working for the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. Private Anderson was taken prisoner in the vicinity of Schönberg, Belgium on December 21, 1944.  He was held prisoner in Stalag IV-B Mühlberg, Landkreis Elbe-Elster, Brandenburg, Germany and according to a German autopsy report he died in the Reserve Hospital V in Leipzig of peritonitis on March 21, 1945. He is buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial, Henri-Chapelle, Arrondissement de Verviers, Liege, Belgium. Private Anderson received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart awards.
