Not a registrant, over age. Born, Sweden, Aug. 28, 1886. Citizenship, alien. Occupation - farmer. Enlisted in Machine Gun Company, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard, at Grand Forks, on July 14, 1917. Called into federal service, World War, on July 15, 1917. Served in Machine Gun Company, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard (Machine Gun Company, 164th Infantry), to Jan. 9, 1918; Headquarters Company, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, to death. Grades: Private 1st Class, (date not given); Corporal, Nov. 11, 1917; Wagoner, Feb. 1, 1918; Private, July 8, 1918; Corporal, Aug. 25, 1918. Overseas from Dec. 15, 1917, to death. Engagements: Offensives: Aisne-Marne; St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. Defensive: Montdidier-Noyon. Defensive Sectors: Ansauville and Saizerais (Lorraine); Cantigny (Picardy). Cited in General Orders No. 94, Headquarters, 1st Division, AEF, Germany, Dec. 13, 1918. The Division Commander cites the following officers and men of this command for distinguished conduct in the recent operations between the Argonne and the Meuse: Corporal Mike Cavalli, (deceased), who gave his life in the performance of his duty, handling his section in a skillful and intrepid manner, under the most trying conditions and with unfailing devotion. Cited in General Orders No. 1, Headquarters, 1st Division, Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky., Jan. 1, 1920, for gallantry in action and especially meritorious services. Entitled to wear a silver star.
