Biography:
On June 1, 1971, aircraft #68-16313 from the 128th Assault Helicopter Company was on an operation in Hau Nghia Province (III Corps) when it exploded in mid-air. Suspicion fell on the possibility it was hit by an artillery round. Officially it was recorded as a non-hostile action. Four crew members and three MACV passengers were killed.
Edward Werman was born on April 11, 1938, in Hensel, Pembina County, North Dakota. He was married to Nancy Lee Bounds in Pembina on September 4, 1960.
Captain Werman is buried or memorialized at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Saint Thomas, Pembina County, North Dakota. He received the Bronze Star and is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, DC, name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 03w, Line 63.
