Circumstances:

SP5 Don Vollmer was the crew chief of UH-1D (#64-13573) that received hostile fire while on a reconnaissance mission out of a 5th Special Forces compound. He was killed in the hail of machine gun fire that the aircraft received during this investigation of a series of huts. Although his plane didn't crash, Don was killed in action when he was hit by anti-aircraft fire.
