Circumstances:
De Wayne arrived in Vietnam 26 April 1968 and was assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
India Company was in the vicinity of Ky Truc Area and 7 kilometers north northeast of the Dong Ha Airfield, when the Marines were engaged by hostile forces. De Wayne died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile small arms fire.

He is buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery - Bismarck, ND.
He was survived by his wife, Evan C Selby and his adopted son; Kerry and his stepfather and mother; Arthur and Alice Fetch Rueb, his brother; Richard and 2 sisters; Phyllis and Gloria Selby all of Bismarck, North Dakota. His father; Earl Selby.
