Circumstances:
Died while in POW status after being assigned to the 59th Coast Artillery Regiment charged with harbor defenses of Manila and Subic Bays. The 59th Regiment manned the seacoast artillery on Corregidor Island. The Japanese invaded in December 1941, Corregidor surrendered in 1942, and he was taken prisoner. Prisoners were loaded aboard the Japanese ship "Arisan Maru" which set sail for Manila, but was torpedoed in 1944.
