Maurice H. Bonemeyer

During Battle of the Bulge December 17, 1944 captured by German Forces. The morning of his capture he was placed in a firing line to be executed when a German Corporal stepped in and had the prisoners carry German casualties/KIA's to rear area, effectively saving thier lives. He was held captive at Nuremberg POW Camp. January 2, 1945 the Allies bombed around the POW camp, a few days later the German Captors marched the prisoners out of camp to dig graves. 

Prison Camp had Serb captives who were Doctors and assisted the prisoners.

Later the prisoners were moved to a Farm and many other locations throughout Germany. He was released from German Captivity near Munich on April 29, 1945. US Army medics moved him to a hospital at camp Lucky Strike in France where he remained hospitalized for 6 weeks. He was sent home from the camp and spent time at Hot Springs Arkansas for medical treatment. Was treated well in Hot Springs where he was released from active duty on Novmeber 10, 1945 and returned home to Gackle ND. He attended college at Market University Millwaukee for Denttistry. Graduated in 1951 returned to Gackle ND to open his first dental practice. He moved to Fargo two years later and opened his dental office "Bonemeyer Dental" at the Black Building where he remained until he retired in 1985. 

He still possesses the POW dog tags issued from the Germans. 

Awarded: 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars, 3 Battle Stars, 1 Combat Infantry Badge and a POW Medal.
