Garreth Charles Isaak

Corporal Isaak's Squad came under intense hostile fire while attempting to secure their objective. Reacting swiftly, he continued to advance toward the building in order to clear it of hostile forces of unknown size. Once inside, Corporal Isaak unhesitatingly and fearlessly maneuvered from room to room in the face of small arms automatic weapons fire. Displaying exceptional initiative and courage with the full knowledge of the inherent dangers involved and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, he aggressively continued his advance to neutralize the hostile force. As a result of his heroic conduct, Corporal Isaak gallantly gave his own life while accomplishing the mission, thereby safeguarding the lives of his fellow Marines. He was the first American killed in Panama. He was awarded the purple heart and the silver star. The marines of 2nd Light Armored Battalion honor Cpl. Garreth Isaak's memory by conducting a week long training competition called the "Isaak Competition".
