Circumstances:
He was killed in action while in Kon Tum, South Vietnam while supporting US Marines in hostile action when the fixed wing plane he was piloting crashed on land.
Biography:
"Bird Dog" USAF Forward Air Controller (FAC) Francis Geiger was lost while supporting the U.S. Marines in Kon Tum province of Vietnam. FAC's marked targets with smoke rockets or grenades, performed and/or directed air strikes upon the enemy and led rescue missions, while enduring intense ground fire, hazardous weather and hostile terrain.
He is buried in Calvary Catholic Cemetery - Enid, Oklahoma.
Geiger Hall at the Minot Air Force Base is named after him.
