Biography:

Richard John Boehm was drafted into the United States Army on October 20, 1969, and began his tour on June 18, 1970, and had a rank of Sergeant. His military occupation or specialty was Light Weapons Infantry, and he was attached to the 198th Light Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry, C Company.

Sergeant Boehm was one of the men killed during an attack by the Viet Cong 409th Sapper Battalion sappers during the Battle of Fire Support Base (FSB) Mary Ann, a remote mountain site near Hau Duc, Quang Tin Province. This was an outpost with about 30 building, including bunkers and sleeping quarters, defended by 231 Americans of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, along with 22 South Vietnamese soldiers.

Richard John Boehm was born on June 23, 1951, in Mandan, Morton County, North Dakota and is buried at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, ND, name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 04w, Line 85.
