Biography:

Carl Stephen Berger, Jr. was drafted in the United States Army via the Selective Service on January 14, 1969, and began his tour on February 12, 1970, with the rank of Sergeant. His military occupation or specialty was Light Weapons Infantry. He was attached to the 5th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry, C Company.

Carl Berger was born on August 23, 1948, to Carl and Lucy Berger, in Bismarck, Burleigh County, North Dakota, and he lived in Mandan, North Dakota.

Sergeant Berger lost his life on April 3, 1970, and is buried or memorialized at the Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota. He was given the Purple Heart and is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, DC, name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 12w, Line 87.
