Lloyd J. Amoit

Private Lloyd Joseph Amiot was born in Gentilly, Polk County, Minn on September 2, 1917. He was living in Grand Forks County, NDak when he entered the USMC Grand Forks County, NDak on June 5, 1944. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was killed in action on March 14, 1945. He is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii and is a purple heart recipient. He came from a family of 10 brothers and 5 sisters. Most of his brothers served in the military. All but one survived their service.

Brother Harry was a double leg amputee and lost part of a hand from injuries received during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany in 1945. Brother Bert landed at Normandy and fought in the Central Europe Campaign, Brother Dewey served in Bermuda and later fought in the liberation of the Philippines during WWII. Brother Leodore enlisted in the Army and retired after two decades as a Chief Warrant Officer. Youngest brother, Roland, served in the Army during the late 1960s & early 1970s. Clarence enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946 and served until 1949, by which time it had become the Air Force. His younger brother Corporal Marvin Baptiste Amiot served with the US Army and was killed in action in Korea on April 1, 1952.
