Geotechnical Drill Crew Intern - This internship will provide quality experience with highway materials testing, geotechnical exploration, and field data collection. This internship will provide field experience in geotechnical engineering and exploration. This is a field position that will require out of town travel and overnights. Safety and personal protective equipment along with travel expense reimbursement will be covered by the agency. CADD Editing duties consist of producing standardized CADD layouts of preliminary survey data, gathering relevant data and resources from various sources including field technicians, consultants, and utility companies, and creating digital terrain models. The role requires adherence to NDDOT CADD standards in plan production, performing quality control checks for accuracy and consistency and maintaining daily documentation files on production events.LiDAR and Photogrammetric responsibilities include developing and utilizing techniques to process LiDAR point cloud data, creating, and implementing classification techniques for multiple sources of LiDAR, and generating preliminary survey topography graphics and surface generation. The role includes collecting preliminary survey data from aerial imagery using a stereo soft-copy workstation and performing various photogrammetric operations such as stereo compilation, image creation and manipulation, analytical triangulation, and ortho-rectified mosaic production. Stereo vision acuity is a requirement for this responsibility. UAS operations involve implementing mission planning to ensure project scope is met efficiently, utilizing UAVs and sensor payloads to collect field data for preliminary surveys, and processing GNSS and IMU data to create accurate trajectories. The role also includes post-processing raw data to produce quality LiDAR point cloud files, as well as creating and maintaining related documents and manuals.This role involves up to date training to develop and refine accuracy and efficiency while maintaining documentation that outlines the procedures for creating preliminary survey production files for NDDOT projects.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for an Engineering Technician IV, you must have at least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. To be considered for an Engineering Technician III, you must have at least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. As the Highway Materials Coordinator in our Dickinson District, you will be responsible for monitoring the quality of materials used in projects. Federal dollars are tied to the quality, testing and monitoring of the materials used in the State, County and City projects. This position oversees the use of materials in all projects to prevent the loss of federal funds. Supervise District Lab Operations: Ensure district staff is appropriately certified for materials sampling and testing. Conduct materials sampling and testing training for district staff. Monitor testing frequency on state and local projects through frequent conversations with field testing personnel, inspectors, and engineers along with project visits. Complete district IA sampling and testing according to NDDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures. Acquire samples for Materials & Research when required. Coordinate sampling with assistant district engineer. Observe field testers sampling and testing. Interpret Specifications, Field Sampling and Testing Manual, and plans to answer materials sampling and testing questions. Purchase and maintain lab equipment. Coordinate with Materials and Research when necessary. Maintain district lab in a clean, neat, and professional manner. Update and review testing requirements in district's Share Point.Permitting: Administer custodian contracts for rest area and district office. Manage district Adopt a Highway program. Serve as a backup for issuing district permits such as approach, temporary water lines, and utilities. Perform site inspections as necessary. Discuss performance issues with permittees or vendors.Records:Review materials files for project finals. Review Materials Dop Box to make sure all tests are completed and entered for each project. Review other final documents as needed.Roadway Information Management Systems:District RIMS coordinator. Update project data such as culverts and signs upon project completion. As a Transportation Engineer Manager Team Lead you will Provide engineering oversite on all construction projects in the Bismarck District and keep the ADE & DE informed of progress on all projects. Oversee all plan development within the District.Primary Duties Include:Employee Supervision: Supervise Engineering Technicians, Transportation Engineers, Project Managers, and maintenance employees or temporary employees performing inspection duties, materials testing and surveying to ensure construction projects completed in accordance with contract requirements. Schedule work activities for construction staff during winter months.Bismarck / Mandan City Contact: Be the primary contact for the Bismarck, Mandan areas. MPO/TAC representative for the District. Project management of DOT projects within the Bismarck/Mandan cities as well as project oversight of LPA projects. Supervise the signing, traffic signals and street lighting within the cities on state roadways. Work with landowners, utility companies, developers, within the Bismarck Mandan area on permits. May include driveway permits, utility permits, agreements to work in right of way, or others. Review the permitted work in the field for compliance and close out when completed. Maintain district files and records. Conduct Transit facility inspections.Construction Project Reviews: Conduct field and documentation reviews of State and County projects run by DOT, consultant, or county staff. In the field review items such as traffic control, construction methods, sampling and testing, and compliance with plans and specs. Records reviews include materials certifications, PQEs, sampling and testing frequency, pay estimates, labor compliance, and other items. Conduct in depth CERT reviews of at least 10% of the district projects per year. Review staffing, SWPPP and environmental permits, CARS documentation and consultant estimates.Construction Design and Finals: Review project finals, review PSE plans, and complete district designs and environmental documentation.

As a Fleet & Equipment Technician III, you will repair vehicles and equipment to keep vehicles and equipment ready for use, you will diagnosis and repair all fleet trucks and DOT equipment. Install different components to DOT equipment and vehicles including radios, safety lighting, light bars, sirens, etc. Your duties will include:Automobile Repair - Troubleshoot and repair systems on cars and pickups; computerized automotive systems with use of complex computer diagnosis system, electrical, transmission, differentials, drivelines, clutches, heating and air conditioning, carburetors and fuel injection systems, brakes and antilock systems, tires, windshields and computerized air bag system and body computers.Radio Installation and Accessories - Installation of 2-way radios, wire and design wiring schematics for electrical accessories, roof antennas, safety equipment, prisoner cages, red lights on law enforcement vehicles. Install emblems, decals, and stripes, cut out switches for Game and Fish enforcement vehicles and mobile vision camera and work with mobile data computers.Light and Heavy Truck Repair - Troubleshoot and repair single and tandem axle trucks; brakes, hydraulics, clutches, drivelines, electrical, gas and diesel engines, tune-ups, transmission repairs, windshields, electronic shift automatic transmission, electronic instrument cluster, computerized diesel engines with use of lap top computer to diagnose, electronic or hydraulic systems, and antilock brake systems.Heavy Equipment, Tractors & Minor Equipment Repair - testing, replacing, or rebuilding as needed; Troubleshoot and repair; cooling, electrical, steering systems, brakes, gear boxes, clutches, hydraulics, transmissions, engine repair gas and diesel, differentials, hydrostatic drive transmission, antilock and air brake trailers, and electronic instrument cluster. Heavy Equipment Operation- Perform periodic equipment operation along with performing snowplowing and snow removal on state and interstate roadways. Shop Maintenance and Recordkeeping - maintain tools and shop area, fill out time sheets accurately, use Fleet Focus system, check and report accident hazards.

Minimum Qualifications

As an Equipment Operator, you will perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance. This includes operating heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties like basic snow and ice control/removal. You will complete highway maintenance duties, which include assisting in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails. To complete these tasks and others assigned, you will operate power tools and other equipment to perform maintenance duties. Part of this job is to keep the roadways clear of any hazards, this includes litter, waste, debris, garbage, and carcasses.You will complete building and ground maintenance duties, and general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment. You will also perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc. You will receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.An important part of this position and the culture at the NDDOT is to maintain a safe working environment for yourself, your coworkers and others.

Minimum Qualifications
